Portfolio Review

When attending a portfolio review there are a few things you should expect and bring with you. The first thing to decide is how you want to present them. Sometimes having prints is better than presenting on a screen or visa versa. The next thing to decide is your print size if you are printing. This will depend on the camera megapixels and colour-bit. Some images thrive more being printed at a large scale than others. Other factors such as artistic style, preference and paper will dictate the quality and size of the print. The next thing to do is to choose the photographer you want to review your work. Having more than one creative review your work will allow you to get advice from different experts from different areas within the industry. It is good to make notes and track your feedback in order to progress. This feedback will most likely be critical as that is the point of a portfolio review but it will help you progress with your images so make sure to keep detailed notes.

My portfolio review:

I booked my portfolio review with a studio based practioneer called Josh Wilde and a photo retoucher called Lois Jordan. Due to the printer malfuctioning and financies being tight I decided to present my images diagiatlly using the macs in the studio. My first review was with Lois Jordan and allowed me an helpful insight into the post production side of a shoot. The critical aspect of the review was less than I thought and Jordan seemed reletively impressed with my shots and the post production put into them. This opened a new avenue to pursue after university. The second review was with Josh Wilde. Wilde was impressed with my work considering it had been done within a term. The areas in which Wilde was critical were areas where I had pointed out issues and flaws with the image or the edits. The valuable knownlegde I gained from both of these creatives will help strengthen my knowledge for future shoots and help me plan for future portfolio reviews and job interviews.
